Operation Deconstruction: Research on Accessibility and Usability

Web Standards

Page failed validation due to the use of markup that postdates HTML 2.

Usability Concerns

The page is pretty easy to use, in its current form. Links are placed in a standard location along the left. The textual content at the bottom of the page may be difficult to read due to the small font size. The link regarding graduation requirements goes to the DOE website; links that leave the site should be so-labeled, or opened in newly spawned windows.

Since every page is under construction, the notice inflates the page size with "fluff."

Some usability experts recommend against animated graphics due to viewers with disabilities who may visit the site—photo sensitivity. I wouldn't expect the small graphics here to cause problems, however the low-resolution of all the graphics doesn't help the image of the site.

Accessibility Concerns

The "title" of the site, included in the graphic with the book, and the school board announcement, is hidden from viewers using a text browser. All content on the site should be in text format, and ALT attributes used.
