As part of my work at the Virginia Department of Education, I led a session on values based leadership for our cabinet members. I wanted to share this presentation as much for evidence of my design principles with slideware (Keynote), as much as the content itself, which I’d been weaving into my practice for at least 6-7 years before creating this.
My introduction to VBL took place through our collaboration with Luck Stone in Goochland, Virginia, which later established a nonprofit arm called InnerWill. I’d been introduced to the work through our strategic planning process and it led to the establishment in our district of our ECCHO core values.
In this deck, I’m combining that as a backdrop to understanding Gallup’s definition of well-being and how leaders can work toward providing support for employee well-being through work culture.
Our agency used the Gallup survey tool with the Q12 to assess employee engagement. I then worked with directors to understand the data that came back from their respective departments.
I later spoke to agency staff about well-being. I created an updated deck to cover the Gallup principles around well-being with a real-world example, after I’d visited Epic Systems in Wisconsin.
This exploration of well-being and how it dovetailed into values-based leadership was enlightening to me and helped me define my own personal leadership journey and framework.
