Tim

Piano Keyboard

When I came to Goochland County, we had a guy who took care of all the technology and after he left, Tim joined us. He’d been a long-time Mac specialist and was responsible for the network and upkeep of all of our Macs. He was a nice guy, but didn’t like his photograph taken. And after many years commuting from Middlesex County, and a car accident, he finally decided to call it quits and look for work closer to home. Our tech director, Tom had organized a farewell dinner for Tim, and because he was well-liked, I collaborated quickly with our media specialist Cynthia to create a song for Tim.

I don’t have a better title for the song! Now, before I set the stage, there are two versions of this song. The one with me on piano, using a few tracks in Garage Band, and the other one is the one he heard at the dinner, with me singing. A musician I am, but a singer I am not! So, while I’d love to share Cynthia’s excellent lyrics, sadly I don’t have them written and I’m not about to share a file of me singing them.

Needless to say, the lyrics wouldn’t make sense to anyone who hadn’t lived through our work at the time. References to “QuickMail”, our email server software, “No Child Left Behind,” high on the minds of educators at the time, and a number of other inside-jokes.

I only wish I could have been more polished with this, but I literally put it together in a 2 weeks. And while my performance isn’t polished, I am pretty happy with the nature of the piece. So, enjoy “Tim.”
