keenésa

keenésa and baton

While in graduate school at CWRU in Cleveland, I wrote two works for advanced wind ensemble. The first, and longer of the two, was entitled keenésa, a unique spelling of “Chinese” as it might be said by a German. It was premiered at Kulas Hall at the Cleveland Institute of Music by the CWRU Symphonic Winds.

The perhaps interesting components of the piece include a chord progression that starts and ends the piece, connecting the different sections; a fanfare for brass; the solo for cymbals, and the final movement, a Chinese-style dance.
