One of my responsibilities while working for Goochland County was to create, with the help of multiple stakeholders and staff, a technology plan, as required by the Virginia Department of Education. I created two of these in my tenure, each six-year plans, and I think in one case, we created an addendum to one of the plans as the deadline was changed for submitting the plan.
This was my first experience creating a comprehensive plan. I was not the technology director, but I had a strong feeling this was not our tech director’s cup of tea. I didn’t mind the work, and in fact, it developed my skillset for later creating two six-year strategic plans for our school division.
The toolkit linked above I cannot exactly place in terms of its utility or use; but it does contain the executive summary of one of our technology plans.
Our plan was published finally each time in a useable format with Omni Outliner for Mac. I do remember our second plan was developed with staff in Google Wave, and at the time, I thought that online app was pretty cool, and yes, I was disappointed when they de-commissioned it.
I also was always partial to this cover I created, with the bitmap-to-full fidelity image on the cover image.
